I knew if I go visit the doctor, he is likely to prescribe a dosage of antibiotics and/or cough syrup for me. I prefer the mind and body natural healing method. So this is what I do to nurse back my health:
Lots of water
Water with honey
Water with honey and lemon
Luo han guo - a chinese fruit boil and drink the water content
Salt with water - gurgling the mouth a few times a day
Say I am healthy
Say I am fit
Say I am strong
The body part is the easy part as I had done so previously. The mind part requires more practice and determination to keep up the spirit. By affirming I am healthy, fit and strong, I asked myself a fundamental question - If I am as I declared to be, what would I be doing, feeling? So, I had missed my run for 2 days and this question alone prompts me to hit the road for a short run yesterday. I was a little fearful because of the drizzle but I persisted. I came home , took a hot shower and felt fresh, as if the muscle aches are gone and the giddiness left my body. If I am healthy, I would not nap in the afternoon on the bed, so if I do that , it is counter to what I believed. Thus merely saying it is not sufficient, one must uphold his own beliefs.
Like my two kids who are also down with bad cough, I paint a nice picture of me bringing them to Macdonald and eat ice cream. This scene would imply their cough is gone and they are healthy like before.
Doctor liked to say it is due to a viral infection that causes this and that but I prefer to think that we humans are also prone to the virus of the mind. The mind choose to believe the outward appearance of things. When you cough, go see a doctor , that is the first reaction. An automatic response without any intervention. The more habitual we do this, the more we are tied to this vicious cycle of seeing the doctor , the more sickness we get throughout the year.
Instead, by simply confessing and believing that one is healthy, strong and fit, one can overcome all kinds of viruses from attacking us. These viruses will also choose its victims to attack. A strong mind creates a shield over the body and these viruses will have problems penetrating into the body. The deeper I think, the more it makes sense.
In the past, I would think, what if I am hospitalised and had no money to pay for medical bills (something that the industry wants you to buy into), so better to set aside funds for it. Then , there is the year end flu, cough, fever ,etc, All these financial costs are spent due to one's constant worry and uncertain if one can truly stay healthy, strong and free from diseases. The thinking is that as one aged, all these sickness is common and it is also acceptable. To me, it is not because my vision is to live to age 120 - not only attending my kids' wedding but also their own kids wedding.
To do that, I firmly believe my good health will ensure that I be able to grace their special moments. I already hear the guests saying to my son, Your dad is simply amazing! How does he do it? By the time I attend their kids' wedding, my grandson and grand daughters are even more amazed as I would probably be the most senior in the party, hahaha.
I believe we are not given a garment of flesh to accept all these diseases and suffer in pain while we are here on this earth. There are more important things to do. The basic premise to embark on any worthy cause is to have a healthy body and mind. That takes time to cultivate, more importantly a shift of mindset from the early stage is also needed.
