It is said that we have 50,000 to 60,000 thoughts that run through our mind a day. That is a huge figure and only the person knows how many of these thoughts are positive ones and those that are not. Vine here refers to our thoughts, both positive and negative. Our mind in this case is like the wild tree and out of it are these uncontrollable vines that stretches out on its own. Some of these ,50,000 thoughts are negative or destructive and it must be pruned frequently before we believe them as truth.
For example, if you make a mistake at work, did you say something like, I am so stupid, how could I .........?
Or I am hopeless, I can't even do a simple thing like this!!!
Maybe this one - Do I really think I can do this ? (whatever task, project you are working on)
Here's a powerful bible verse - "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15.5
If we allow subconsciously our negative thoughts , starting from a seed to breed in our mind , it will soon grow and before we know it , it will direct us , prompt us to change our thinking and affect the actions we take, alter our behaviour and affect our attitude. We develop negative emotions like depression, frustration, anger, regret, remorse, anxiety, etc.
Therefore, it is our responsibility , for our own sake that we be mindful about our thoughts, catch those negative ones and prune it immediately. Sometimes, we can get lost into these thoughts, being seduced into the deep valley, allowing it to take roots slowly and that is the danger. The edge from good to evil is a thin line and one must tread carefully else we fall into the well of darkness.
So, the next time, you are on the train, in the bus, awaiting for the next appointment, be conscious about your thoughts. After all, nobody but God knows what we are thinking each day.
God bless you!
